आग से न जलने वाला कागज

आवश्यकताएं

१)     मोटे कागज के दो टुकङे – आप इन्हें पुराने कार्ड से काट सकते हैं.

२)    स्केल

३)    पेंसिल

४)    कैंची

५)    गोंद

६)    मोमबत्ती और माचिस

७)    कागज तो आग में पकङने के लिए चिमटा 

                                                                                                                                                              

प्रक्रिया

१)     कागज का एक टुकङा लें

२)    पेंसिल और स्केल की मदद से उस पर चिन्ह बनाएँ जैसा की चित्र में दिखाया गया है. 

                                             कागज़ का आकर - 7 सें. मी.  X 5 सें. मी. 

                                        कागज़ के किनारे से 1 सें. मी. की दूरी पर काटे।  

३)    बिंदु वाली रेखा पर काटें. अब दिखाए गए तरीके के अनुसार कागज के किनारे मोङ कर गोंद से चिपकाएँ. आपकी कागज की नाव तैयार है. ऐसी दो नाव बनाएँ. नाव बनाने के स्थान पर आप कागज के कप का इस्तेमाल भी कर सकतें हैं. 

४)    मोमबत्ती को स्थिर जगह रख कर उसे जलाएं.

५)    चिमटे का प्रयोग कर एक खाली कागज की नाव को जलती मोमबत्ती के ऊपर पकड कर रखें – यह बहुत जल्दी जलने लगेगी. जलती नाव को कागज के पानी के कटोरे में डुबो कर बुझा दें.

7)            दूसरी नाव में पानी भरें. चिमटे की मदद से पानी से भरी हुई नाव को जलती मोमबत्ती के उपर रखें. आप देखेंगे की कागज धुंए से काला हो जाता है पर उसमें आग नहीं लगती.

प्रयोग के पीछे का विज्ञान

गर्म करने पर चीजो का तापमान बढ़ता है. तापमान तबतक बढ़ता है जबतक यह क्रांतिक (क्रिटिकल) तापमान पर नहीं पहुँच जाता. इसके बाद तापमान बढ़ने पर चीज़ में आग लग जाती है. जब हमने खाली कागज़ की नाव को मोमबत्ती के ऊपर रखा तो कागज़ का तापमान तेजी से बढ़ कर उसके क्रिटिकल ताप पर पहुँच गया और कागज में आग लग गयी.जब कागज़ की नाव को पानी से भर कर मोमबत्ती के ऊपर रखा गया तो पानी ने सारी गर्मी सोख ली जिससे कागज़ का ताप नहीं बढा और परिणाम स्वरुप आग नहीं लगी.

वैज्ञानिक सिद्धांत का दैनिक जीवन में प्रयोग 

 १)     आग बुझाना – जब पानी को आग के ऊपर डालते हैं तो पानी आग की गर्मी को सोख लेता है जिससे तापमान कम हो जाता है और आग बुझ जाती है.

२)    जीव जन्तुओं में ताप का नियंत्रण – जीव जंतुओं के शरीर में पानी बङी मा‍‌त्रा में होता है. यह पानी गर्मी को अवशोषित कर लेता है और शरीर के तापमान को तेजी से बढ़ने नही देता.

पूछोगे नहीं तो सीखोगे कैसे? 

प्र 1. क्या सभी प्रकार की आग को पानी से बुझा सकते हैं?

उत्तर. नहीं. पानी आग से ऊर्जा सोखता है. यदि आग अधिक विकराल है तो पर्याप्त गर्मी सोखने से पहले पानी भाप बन जायेगा. ऐसी आग बुझाने के लिए बहुत अधिक पानी की जरुरत होगी. इसके अतिरिक्त विद्युत के कारण लगी आग बुझाने में पानी के इस्तेमाल की सलाह नहीं दी जाती.

प्र 2. क्या मैं पानी की जगह तेल इस्तेमाल कर सकता हूँ?

उत्तर. नहीं. पानी की जगह तेल के इस्तेमाल की कोशिश भी न करना. तेल आसानी से आग पकड़ता है और इसका इस्तेमाल खतरनाक हो सकता है. हमने पानी का प्रयोग इसलिए किया क्योंकि पानी में आग नहीं लगती.

प्र 3. क्या बुखार में माथे पर ठंडी पट्टी रखने के पीछे भी यही विज्ञानं है?

उत्तर. हाँ.बिलकुल सही. ठंडी पट्टी शरीर की गर्मी को निकालती है जिससे शरीर का तापमान खतरनाक स्तर तक बढ़ नहीं पाता.

What you will need ?

a)            A  piece of thick paper – You can  cut it                            
               from old greeting cards                  

b)            Scale                                                                    
c)            Pencil                                                                            

d)            Scissors

e)            Glue

f)             Candle, candle stand and matchbox

g)            Tongs/ Kitchen holder to hold the paper

                over the flame

What to do ?

1)            Take a piece of paper.

2)            Using pencil and scale draw lines on it as shown in the figure.

3)            Cut along the dotted lines. Now fold the edges as shown in the video and stick the overlapping pieces of paper with glue. Your paper boat is ready. Make two such boats. Alternately, a paper cup can also be used.

4)            Fix a candle in a stand and light it.

5)            Use tongs to hold a paper boat over the burning candle - It quickly catches fire.  Put the burning paper boat in the water bowl to put out the fire.

6)            Pour water in the second paper boat. Using tongs hold the water filled paper boat over the burning candle.  The paper becomes black with soot but it does not catch fire.

The science behind it

Substances must reach a critical temperature called the combustion temperature before they begin to burn. When held over a flame the piece of paper quickly reaches the combustion temperature and begins to burn.

When the paper boat filled with water is held over the candle flame the water in the boat absorbs heat and does not allow the temperature of the paper to rise to its combustion temperature.  As a result the paper does not catch fire.

Applying the science

1)            Putting out a fire – When water is poured over a fire – the water absorbs the heat of the fire. This causes the temperature to drop and the fire is put out.

2)            Temperature regulation in living organisms – Living organisms have large amounts of water in their body. The water absorbs heat and helps to slow down the rise in body temperature.

There are no dumb questions

Q 1. Can all fires be put out with water?

Ans. No. Water removes heat from a fire. If a fire is very strong it can evaporate the water before the water can remove enough heat to put out the fire. You will need very large amounts of water to put out such fires. Moreover electrical fires are difficult to put out by using water.

Q 2. Can I use oil instead of water?

Ans. Don’t even try using oil. Using oil can be very dangerous as it can catch fire easily. We used water because water does not catch fire.

Q 3. Does the same science apply to cold compresses in fever?

Ans. That’s right. Cold compresses remove heat from the body and prevent dangerously high body temperatures.
